Silver light draws you into the reading room today. It’s been a while, and though nothing looks different, there’s a shift. Something in the atmosphere has gone…green. It’s crisp and cold, and the breeze that swirls in from the cracked window smells of oak moss and rain. You cross the room, close the window, and snatch the coziest blanket from the pile. The Book is there, waiting. Hoping it has a few more stories in it. It’s a little more battered than you remember, it’s cover scuffed, it’s spine is just a little bent. But it falls open in your hands when you lift it from the table, like always, and you sink down on the cushions…

Light
She’s empty.
Hollow.
But that space is full of light.
Of mist and moonglow.
Of star shine and smoke.
…..
But empty’s empty.
So even as she burnes bright…
Theres nothing keeping her from collapsing in on herself.
She floats, light as a sigh, as a memory.
A whisper.
…..
Maybe it’s the unspoken words that fill her hollows.
Maybe the unwritten stories that turn the emptiness gossamer.
People see it.
See her shine.
But she can’t.
…..
But like all flashes in the dark, it’s just a glimpse.
Just a turn of the head, flick of the eyes.
But when there are mountains to see..
Birds with bright feathers and lilting songs to pull your focus away…
She won’t demand your attention…
She can’t follow you home.
Because she’s too light to ground herself, and too heavy to move.
…..
But don’t worry.
…..
She was happy to light your way…
To be a bright spot in your life.
Even if it was only a flash.
Note:
If this, or any of my stories spark something in you, please feel free to make your own art in response! I’d love to see what you create, whether it’s a sketch, a snippet of writing, or something entirely different. I’m eager to feature original art in place of the stock photos I’m using for now.
Just keep in mind, my pieces are creative sketches, rough drafts that I don’t stress over. So if you want to share, know that your sketch is equal to my writing “doodle”. I’m not looking for masterpieces (though I won’t turn them down). Just scraps.
You know.
The things that get stuck in your head and have no bigger picture to fit into. Yeah, those are my fav.
Thanks for reading.
